About Doug Mead I was once introduced to a former Miss America, Kathy Alls Elser, who is now a bestfriend and business advisor. Upon our introduction, she asked me to give her my "Bio" in three highlight things about my life. My response was "Huh?" She interjected, 'Doug, when you initially meet someone for the first time, you have their undivided attention for twenty seconds. After that, zip, nada, they are thinking about what it is that they would like to say.' Side Bar: Kathy also taught me many life lessons. Paramount was when speaking to a youngster, especially, to never let eyeball- to-eyeball contact decay or allow anyone to interrupt that conversation. This should hold true for adults, too. My response then was, 'Well, how about this? I was an Officer in the United States Military and wore a Green Beret. I am a pilot and have seen the stars at noon. I am an Entomologist as the University of California at Riverside. Other that that, I haven't really achieved much with my life.' She was flummoxed, astonished. You "haven't achieved WHAT with your life?" Kathy said, 'We are here in a room with a with over 1,000 business professionals and no one I have met this evening has a "Bio" that impressive.' Well, that was 30+ years ago. Today, I would change "Entomologist" to "Licensed Real Estate Professional and Broker for thirty-four years and previously owned my own successful Brokerage for fifteen of those years." In reality, I am not just about three things. There are other things I enjoy doing and things I do well. I am an author and currently sitting on a three-hundred-fifty-page non-fiction first-person narrative-adventure manuscript of 180,000 words, for which I am seeking literary representation.
