Simply put, a real estate agent is a professional licensed to list and sell real estate, including homes, multi-family properties, land, commercial lots, and industrial buildings. A REALTOR®, however, is somewhat different. A REALTOR® is a member of the National Association of REALTORS®. While an agent is always a real estate agent, a real estate agent isn’t always a REALTOR®. As mentioned, real estate agents who represent the buyer's best interests are commonly referred to as buyer’s agents. All listing agents serve the seller, while other agents without buyer agreements are also working on behalf of the seller and must strive to obtain the best price for them. Buyer’s agents are committed to advocating for the buyer's interests throughout the home-buying process. Buyers can schedule consultations with agents to learn more about their services and determine who can best meet their needs.
