Why This Question Might Mislead You, and What You Should Ask Instead

As a listing agent, I often hear this question:

“How many homes have you sold this year?”

And while it’s completely fair for sellers to want to evaluate an agent’s experience, this question can actually mislead you when choosing the right agent to sell your home fast and for top dollar.

The Problem with High-Volume Agents

Agents who focus on volume—having dozens of listings at once, may appear impressive, but there’s often a hidden cost: • Their attention is spread thinly across many clients. • Some listings expire or go stale simply because they didn’t get the personalized attention they needed. • For these agents, not every home needs to sell to be profitable, they still benefit from signs in yards and leads generated from listing exposure. What This Means for You, the Seller • Your home could easily become just another listing in a high-volume business model. If it doesn’t get priority or focused marketing, it may: o Sit on the market too long. o Miss out on buyer interest during its critical launch window. o Sell for less—or not at all.
