KARMEN K. LUCAS - A LITTLE HISTORY

MY PERSONAL BACKGROUND

I was raised in Fostoria, Ohio in a middle-class family, the middle child of 3, living the American dream! My father worked his way up to being an engineer for Atlas Crankshaft. Mom was a stay-at- home mom until she became a beautician (as they were called in the 70’s), and soon after opened her own salon. Our family was hard-working and all shared in the responsibilities of "the shop" and the household duties. We worked hard all week and spent most summer weekends at our place at Bay Point in Marblehead. In the winter we would break the monotony by taking snowmobile trips into Michigan. Through high school I worked as a nurse’s aide at a nursing home. After graduation I followed in my mother’s footsteps and went straight into The Tiffin Academy of Hair Design and worked nights in fast food service. Upon graduation I worked full-time at Mom’s shop, The Head Shed, and bartended nights and weekends. After about 6 years, at the age of 25, I decided to make a change, to uproot, and move to “the lake’. After “weekending” there all my life, it was the love of the water and all that there is to do on and around it that drew me there to settle in. I moved to Port Clinton and worked at building a new clientele at Panache’ Styling Salon. Soon after, I bought the salon, remodeled it, and made it a 10 chair full-service salon and renamed it Cutter’s & Company. Later I downsized to a smaller salon just outside of Marblehead, Cutter’s Cove. ix
