What is the best flooring for my barn?
Stall floors can be roughened cement, dirt, clay, asphalt, crushed limestone, sand or wood. Dirt aisles should be avoided; they create dust that can lead to respiratory problems such as the heaves. Dirt floors are also uneven and messy when wet; however, covering them with rubber mats or pavers eliminates some of these problems. If possible install the rubber mats over a compacted crushed stone or stone and sand. Dirt as stall flooring should be avoided and make it diffi t difficult to keep the stall clean.
