CHAPTER 9 CHOOSING THE RIGHT LOWER TAX TOWN: A FRAMEWORK THAT ACTUALLY WORKS Once homeowners start exploring lower tax towns, they often feel overwhelmed at first. Suddenly they are comparing commute times, school districts, property tax rates, home styles, lot sizes, amenities, and future potential. It can feel like too much. But with the right framework, everything becomes manageable. Here is the process I walk clients through when they are serious about relocating. You can start doing this on your own. In fact, I encourage it. When people take the time to do their own homework first, their decisions are clearer, faster, and more aligned with their goals. And when they are ready for help navigating the actual move, that is where I come in. Step 1: Begin With Your Lifestyle Priorities Before you compare home prices or taxes, you need clarity. You should understand how you want to live, not just where you want to live. People sometimes chase low taxes without considering whether the town fits their daily life. Ask yourself: • What type of neighborhood do I prefer. Quiet or vibrant. • Do I want more land. • Do I want a walkable downtown. • Do I want to be near parks, lakes, or hiking trails. 40
