CHAPTER 10 Staging Solutions and Options
RENTING FURNITURE G FURNITURE
If you do not have the furniture to best complement your staged home so it is dressed to impress, renting can be a convenient option. If the house you are selling is completely vacant, renting furniture might not only be convenient, but the smartest move. Start the process by selecting what you do have, but be selective. You do not want too much furniture, nor do you want worn items. Storing away or disposing of worn or dingy items is recommended. Even removing an old scratched coffee table or dingy couch can brighten up the space. After you have combed through your house to rearrange or clear out furniture in each room, reassess whether to use a few more pieces. What money you carefully spend on obtaining furniture will pay off when the home sells. Much of the time, some rental items are required to really create the effect you want, and even staging experts hired by homeowners resort to renting when in need of furniture. Furniture rental companies normally provide the furniture, the trucks, and the man-power to get it to its destination. The downside is they also normally require a three-month minimum rental period. In a buyers' market, three months to sell a home is not unusual, and of course, if you happen to sell your home sooner, check to see if you’re not out any extra money for returning the furniture early.
