The Tony Davis rule!
I'm going to share a few of his fun highlights, starting in Little League. Tony started young, in fact I had to get the coaches permission to get him on his first team. It was April, Tony had just turned 6 in January and the minimum age for the league was 7 and up. Coach Dick Durrett watched Tony warm up and said he would fit in just fine. As things progressed Tony got to be a pretty darn good lefthanded pitcher. During a 12-year-old tournament Tony's local team played a top ranked travel team that was part of the Metro Baltimore League sponsored by the Baltimore Orioles. Their coach approached me after the game and asked if Tony would be interested in joining his team and traveling with them to play in the Cooperstown Dreams Park tournament, what fun! Grandpa Davis, Angie and I all traveled to Cooperstown to watch and enjoy the tournament, what a great experience! In high school whenever Tony had a great outing we would have dinner at a Vietnamese Pho Soup restaurant. We still get together every month or two for Pho! So back to the Tony Davis Rule, it happened just before Tony and I moved to Florida. The season had just ended with the Baltimore League and I got a call from Coach Ron Anderson, who was a great man and a great leader, asking if Tony could join his old team for the end of the season playoff games. Coach Ron's son Steve was Tony's catcher who went on to graduate from West Point! It was a good chance to play with his old friends so we said yes. Well, the other teams didn't know what hit em! The team that was expecting to win the tournament wound up in second place,
