by Rick Davis - This Incredible Adventure Called Life

slowly clearing the land and I've made a great deal of progress. I had a wood stove installed to help heat the house and a double tiered deck I designed so we are very blessed to call this home. No more moves for us. Just family, fires and deck sitting in my future retirement several years from now. From the time I was in 7th grade I played sports year round: baseball, football and wrestling as well as track in Jr HS. I was the second leg for our 440 and 880 yard county championship relay teams in 9th grade. I was always competitive and had a great deal of fun but I was never dominating past 9th grade but man was that a great year. I was the 2nd best pitcher in WBC baseball (Scott was our head coach), I had a winning season in wrestling and I was the captain of our 125lbs football team where I played tight end and middle linebacker and the suicide man on kickoffs due to my speed. I lost 10 lbs to make the team and quickly gained it back making me one of the bigger kids on field and a dominating force with my 3 tiered facemask hand picked by my coaches. I was the only one on the team that had that helmet. Did I mention I was selected prom king that year? Yeah, 9th grade was pretty awesome for me. I attended Peary HS graduating in 1983. The school was targeted to close after the 1984 school year so many of the best teachers were leaving and I was not a good student until I went to college. I stopped playing football after 10th grade to focus on wrestling and baseball and one of my wrestling buddies talked me into a visit with the cheerleaders one day. Little did I know this was a setup. He had joined the squad as a male cheerleader and they needed another male to help with the lifts. The girls quickly talked me into it and while it was embarrassing at times Paul and I were more like clowns but we were able to see all the football games for free and oh BTW I hung out with the prettiest girls in the school everyday. Not a bad gig. I was named Peary's first Homecoming King but was ready to move on with life after HS.
