So now that we’ve covered Part 1 (Th e Home-Search Process), and you’ve decided on homeownership, you’ve hired a great buyer’s agent to work alongside you, and you’ve found the right home that meets all your criteria, it’s time for Part 2: Th e Home-Buying Process. Finding the right home is obviously one major component of homeownership that needs to be completed, but that in no way means that you’re near the end. In fact, in many ways, you’re just at the beginning. Th e reality is that searching for and buying a home involves an entire process that includes many steps and pieces that need to come together before you can declare the home “yours,” make the move, and settle in. Th is chapter provides you with an overview of the entire home- buying process, including home searching, breaking it down into 12 basic steps that you should follow, along with your agent, to get things moving. Beyond that, in further chapters, we will go into more detail and greater depth, just to make sure you have all your bases covered. Below is the 12-step checklist that will help make the whole process more rewarding and less anxiety-provoking. Searching for and purchasing a home is not for the faint of heart, but it is so very worth it! Keep in mind that the fir st several steps have already been discussed at length in Part 1 of this book; they are included here as a reminder as well as because they are part of the overall home-buying process.
