How does your house look if you go stand on the curb outside it? From the street, is it an attractive house? The front yard, the drive, the garage, the grass, the garden—whatever you first see when you drive up—does it all look nice, clean, well-maintained? These are some of the questions you need to ask yourself if you want to stage your home for a sale. There are some maintenance practices that are simply necessary to make your home as pleasing to the eye as it can possibly be to attract buyers and add value. Here are some helpful practices: Replace windows. If there are windows that leak, stick, or are peeling on the sides or bottom, changing them will give the exterior of your home a newer and more beautiful look. Repair and clean the roof. You can easily remove mold, leaves, and dirt from your roof by simply using a water and bleach solution. Any more involved damage may require professional work, but it’s better to do it beforehand than have a potential buyer discover at the last minute that the ceilings get suspiciously damp on rainy days. Fixing up any damaged parts of your roof can significantly improve its structural integrity. Replace or clean gutters. The gutters on most homes are easily damaged by the weather. It is advisable that you clean them out and make sure they look as nice as possible, but if that doesn’t seem to be enough, replacing them may be the better option to consider. Fix the stoop or porch. Buyers will spend a considerable amount of time here looking around when they want to come into your 46
