CREATING A GRAND ENTR AND ENTRANCE

As I mentioned earlier, an important part of curb appeal is the home’s “grand entrance” — the portal to even the most modest house. You want to create a sense of a great place to come home to. Impressing the home shopper at the front door is a vital part of the home sale. This means more than putting out a welcome mat and potted plants. You want prospective buyers to feel welcome, safe, and secure when they open the door. The doorknob is the first point-of-touch on a home. Security is important to homebuyers. A flimsy lock or handle on the front door will make potential homebuyers uncomfortable. They will wonder what other problems lurk inside. I have lost track of how many homes I've shown with a key that does not work easily in the lock. If your hardware is not working well, consider replacing the door handle with a heavy-duty deadbolt and knob combination. This investment of less than $100 will make a statement that your home is secure and maintained. The front door is a focal point; make it impressive. Freshen it up and add a dash of color. Choose a paint that complements the color of your home. If you are not sure, look online at homes similar to yours, see what colors are the most appealing. HINT: Black is a safe choice but a color can often make your door pop! Choosing the right color can greatly enhance the curb appeal. If your door does not need paint, make sure the door and surrounding area is clean and any scuffs buffed out. If your door is in bad condition, where even paint won't help, replacing an older tired door with a steel entry door or high quality wooden door is worth the cost.
