As a recap, you need to think about, determine, and write down what your non-negotiables (your needs) are insofar as the features of your next home are concerned, and then write a new list of your wants — the elements in a home that would be “nice to have” but not critical. Seriously considering these two lists, and putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) will significantly help both you and your agent during the home- search process, narrowing the options and saving yourself a lot of time and headache. Remember, your ideal new home should meet all of your needs, and hit some of your wants. No home is perfect, and you need to be prepared to make some concessions, should the situation warrant it. **Just a quick note here if you've decided to move to a 55+ or an assisted living community. Your needs and wants still matter. So don't put the book down. Write that list. It's important. I want to congratulate you for making this decision now. I can't tell you how often I hear of people who've forgone the decision because it was just too hard, only to have someone else have to make the decision for you. Or God forbid, make it in a hurry because you fell or had a stroke and can't go back to your home. The worst for me would be to pass away and have my kids have to empty my home and all its contents because I didn't do it. By being brave and making this decision yourself, you are in control of your next phase in life. Take some time and think about what you would like. Put the pen down and dream a little. Do you have a spouse? Talk with them and make a dream list. Don't wait. What could you do? What would you do if you didn't have to take care of this huge home anymore? Would you travel more? Would you go to the theater more? Would you walk on the beach or in the mountains? Would you visit your family more? If your spouse has passed or you aren't married, now is
