CHAPTER 9 Organizing Your Move Moving is one of the most stressful and tiring things anyone can ever go through. It can also be an uplifting and refreshing experience. It needs careful planning, whether the move is across cities or within the same area. It involves much work, from sorting to packing, labeling, unpacking, and arranging all your “stuff” in your new home. Unfortunately, most of us have to go through it at some point. It’s a necessity that can hardly be avoided or ignored. Luckily, the stress can be minimized, and the possible problems can be avoided with help and resources. As with most tasks, organization and careful planning are essential for a smooth move. A checklist will help you stay organized when sorting, labeling, and packing your belongings.
PREPARING YOUR CHECKLIS UR CHECKLIST
Moving your entire home means you must prepare at least two checklists. The first is a checklist of all the items you’ll bring, organized by the room to which they belong. In addition to mentioning the room, it’s a great idea to number the boxes. This way, you can indicate where each item is packed on your checklist. It will make it easier to sort and identify your things while moving. The second checklist you need is a list of all the tasks involved in your move, such as packing, labeling, disposing of items not being moved with you, turning off and on utilities at the new home, and others.
