I came upon Richard Freedkin quite serendipitously. He was showing a ranch my mother was interested in. Right off the bat he had done his homework. He showed us several documents he’d prepared to comprehensively edify us as to the property’s market worthiness and desirability. But there was no pressure – he simply answered each of our questions revealing a deep knowledge and breadth of real estate experience. As we got to talking more, we learned of his forty-year real estate career during which he authored several books and traveled the country as a well-compensated public speaker on his passion for real estate and the level of industry understanding that this passion had gained him. During this first showing, I gazed at the kitchen countertop upon which several real estate agent business cards were littered. I said to Richard, “Wow, you have a lot of competition, don’t you?” Without hesitation, he replied. “I have no competition; nobody does what I do” Then he explained the lengths he goes to to sell a home at the optimal price. I hired him on the spot to sell my house. We embarked on simultaneous missions to sell my home and purchase a home for my mother. On the buying side, Richard scoured the market daily and led us to several potential matches. But he did this knowing full well that it was a futile exercise. Our resources would not allow
