What is important is whether or not an agent has mastered their use. In short, what matters is what an agent has between the ears; knowledge and experience. Consequently, when interviewing agents, it is essential to ask relevant and revealing questions. The best agents will relish the opportunity to shine while mediocre agents will become defensive and evasive. When meeting with an agent you consider hiring, here are some examples of questions to ask: • How long have you been a licensed real estate agent? • Are you a broker or salesperson? If not a broker, why not? • How many specialized real estate courses have you completed? • Which advanced real estate designations have you earned? • How many homes have you failed to sell in the last five years? • Do you work with a team (e.g. unlicensed and/or uninsured assistant, transaction coordinator, scheduler, etc.)? • Do you use flyers? If so, can you show me an example? (see if the price is displayed) • How many pictures will be taken of my house? What about drone photos and a video tour? • Do you hold Open Houses? Do you let other agents form your company or any other real estate company hold Open Houses for your listings? If so, does your insurance cover them? • What percent of your commission will you spend on marketing my home? • If the house next door just sold for “x” amount, what is
