SHORTLY AFTER LEAVING THE SCENE:

; ; Write down everything you remember as soon as possible. No detail too small! • Consider your speed, the time of day, anydistractions you couldn’t control, weather, construction, animals or items in the road, etc. • Email this information to your agent. ; ; Report the accident to your insurance immediately. (Some companies have a filing claim time limit.) • Do this even if you don’t want to file a claim. This way your insurance company can give corroborating evidence if you get sued.

IF YOU’RE A PASSENGER IN AN ACCIDENT:

; ; Get the names, addresses, phone numbers, and insurance information of everyone involved. • If you need medical attention, go through your health insurance. • They can recover the money, called damages, from the other driver or drivers’ insurance. You will be paid through their liability and/or medical payments insurance. THE CLAIMS PROCESS The first thing to do is to call in the accident as soon as possible. Remember, this doesn’t mean that you’re necessarily filing a claim. Even if you don’t, this covers your butt in case the other party decides to sue.
