Listings on free online sites like Craigslist help spread the word, but they rarely produce a buyer willing to pay top dollar. If a person is looking on a free site, he’s looking to save money. You will not get the best price for your home from someone who is trying NOT to spend money. But give it a try. You could get to meet some real characters. Some may even be dangerous. That said, Craigslist can be one more tool to help spread the word about your sale. First, Craigslist is free. You can write a description as long as you like and add loads of pictures. You can put up an ad for a few days, see if it gets results, then change it as many times as you like. Here are some Craigslist tips: • In order to stay at the top of the “homes for sale” list, you’ll have to relist the ad every day. Craigslist may not like this. • Keep the fonts and design simple and easy to read. Fancy formatting will distract buyers. • Highlight that the sale is FSBO, which will attract bargain hunters. • If you don’t want to deal with any agents, add “No Agents Buyers Only” in the ad.
