PLAN THE MOVE AHEAD WITH Y VE AHEAD WITH YOUR IT TEAM
This can be one of the more complicated aspects of your move, disconnecting and reconnecting all your connections and any in- house servers you use. When you know your exact date, prepare your IT team to transfer your services that day. You probably want them and your other employees handling the most expensive equipment you have. If you are getting rid of some equipment, try to donate them to e-waste companies. Don’t throw them out. Plan what is going and getting replaced well before your move. If you do have computers that will be part of the move and touched by the movers, take extra care while packing them. Pack them individually with bubble wrap or other forms of protection. Cover them with a packing blanket to ensure a tight hold. Don’t stack them on top of each other or on other items. Wrap up your monitors in bubble wrap or blanket as well. Don’t let any tape touch the monitor either; it can damage it. You can take steps to safeguard your data in case something breaks in the move. Store data on a backup hard drive or a cloud storage system like Google Drive. Give your cables special attention. Wrap them up neatly and in order, so no time is wasted unwrapping a messy wire. They should always be taken out of computers and monitors. Putting your cables and wires in a box in ziploc bags is the best way to keep them separate. Label them to save more time after the move. You can read the instructions in manuals or online manuals containing moving instructions for specific items. If you move something that is under warranty and breaks, it may void the warranty so be careful and find out any specific instructions.
