Mery Rodriguez - THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO BUYING A HOME

family and friends to finish packing all your things, leaving behind only the essential items you’ll be using every day. • Check your boxes. Double-check that all your boxes are properly packed and numbered, as well as color-coded by room, if possible. This will help you in the unpacking process. Be sure there are labels on both the tops and sides of the boxes. • Prepare a snack bag for moving day. Bring lots of water and high-energy food to sustain your strength while moving. • Clean your appliances. This includes your fridge, stove, and oven. Also make sure most of the food in the fridge will be consumed by moving day. • Check the utilities at the new property to ensure they’re working properly. • Make post-it notes with your new address and your contact numbers to be given to your moving crew and/or to your helpers on moving day.

On the Day of the Move:

• Pack your beds. Pack away all your bedding, put them in the appropriate (and labeled) boxes, and disassemble all the beds in your home. • Hold a last-minute meeting with your movers. If you’re hiring a moving company, sit down with them and ensure they know how you want things to be done. Inform them of the box labels, where each box must go, and how they should be loaded. Make sure all your items are loaded and nothing gets left behind. 181
