• Distribute your post-it notes with your contact numbers and the new address to every driver in the moving group. • Double-check every room in the house before leaving, making sure nothing is left. • Say goodbye. Turn off all light switches and lock all windows and doors. • Be prompt! Be sure to arrive at your new home before the movers and your helpers. • Inspect your new home. Double-check that all utilities are in working condition. • Clean up your new home. Clean it now, while it’s still empty. It’s the best time to do it, before you start unpacking and setting everything up. Open windows to let in fresh air, and cabinet doors so you can dust and wipe them down. • Direct your movers to unload your boxes; show them where each box must go. • Unpack what you need for the rest of the day and set up your beds and beddings while you have help. Now that you’ve moved in, you’re probably exhausted, and there’s still much work to be done with cleaning, unpacking, and settling in, but for now, stop, relax, and enjoy how far you’ve come and where you are now — your new home!

A big factor to consider before making your way through the above checklists is whether to hire a mover. While some people can certainly do fine without this help, especially if they have a lot of friends and family available to help, and/or if they’re moving down the street.
