Bathrooms should be made spotless. Not all sellers have luxurious, spa-grade bathrooms—but having sparkly clean tiles, grout, vanity, and shower door can contribute greatly to making an average bathroom look its best. The kitchen should be cleaned up. The kitchen is frequently one of the places that accumulates the most “stuff”—cell phones, backpacks, car keys, and much more find themselves dumped in the kitchen. Sellers should not stuff the cabinets with dishes nor the pantry with food, and the freezer and refrigerator should be both cleaned and cleaned out. Purge attics, garages, and basements. This is another important task to carry out when preparing to stage a home for prospective buyers; like the closets, again, this is to help emphasize storage space, create an impression of cleanliness and good housekeeping, and to encourage the buyer to envision their own things filling these spaces.
