CHAPTER 19 Simple Negotiation Ideas Negotiation doesn’t have to be war—but let’s not walk in unarmed either. You’ve deep-cleaned every corner, touched up the paint, and staged the living room within an inch of its life. You’ve done the work. So when the offers start rolling in (or trickling in, let’s be honest), this is the moment to take a breath, not to panic. Because now we’re entering a new phase: negotiation. This is where deals are made, or blown. And while it can feel overwhelming, a little strategy can go a long way. You don’t need to be a hostage negotiator. You just need to understand your leverage and lead the process like a boss. Because let me tell you, when negotiations go sideways, it’s usually not because the deal was bad. It’s because someone didn’t know what they were doing. Let’s fix that.

1. The Classic Counter: AKA The Ping-Pong Match

A buyer makes an offer. You counter. They counter. And so on until someone folds, caves, or storms off in a huff. This is Real Estate 101, and it’s how most deals happen.
