Inspect your new home, making sure all utilities are in working condition. Clean up your new home while it’s still empty. Open windows and cabinet doors to let in fresh air. Direct your movers with unloading your boxes; show them where each box must go. I like to label rooms above the doorway before the movers arrive (watch my videos) with labels that match those on the boxes ... MBR = master bedroom, GB1 = guest bathroom 1, initials for kids rooms, etc.. This way they can find their way to the right rooms without your constant direction. Finally, start unpacking. Tackle bedrooms and bathrooms first. This enables a good night's rest for everyone the very first night in your new home. Upbeat music, energy foods, and a positive outlook help with maintaining a healthy pace. I usually like to be completely unpacked in 3 days. It's feasible with a good plan.
SOON AFTER THE BIG MOVE
In one of my MOVING videos, I talk about changing your door locks as a NICE TO HAVE. When we buy a home that has had previous owners, we never know how many keys were given out... to the maid service, the dog walker, or a friend to house sit during a vacation. For me, I like the security of knowing I have the only keys for any new home I move into. When it comes to changing the door locks, here's some options to consider: 1. Your favorite hardware store sells a variety of door knobs and locks. Simply choose your finish, choose your models, then match the serial numbers for all of the locks you're buying. You'll find the serial numbers on each package or box. This will replace multiple door locks that share one key.
