About Karen L. Jor en L. Jorgensen, Realtor Karen L. Jorgensen was raised in Roanoke, Virginia with her brother John. In high school, Karen would get a carload of girls together on warm Sunday afternoons and go to Open Houses! Even as a teenager, homes had a special appeal to her. Karen attended East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina majoring in English and minoring in French. She even won 2nd Runner-Up in the Miss America/Miss Greenville Pageant! After graduation, she married. They remained in Greenville one extra year for her husband to get a Master's Degree. Karen worked at the local newspaper as a reporter, did some television advertising, and then worked in the Pitt County school system as the first white woman to teach in an all-Black union school. She has written a novel called Escape from the Union School (available on Amazon) which depicted her nine months there. (She has since written two more novels and working on a fourth one as a ghost writer). After her husband's graduation, the couple moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he obtained a doctorate. Karen worked at WBRZ-TV doing commercials and at WDBO-FM Radio as their advertising director. Several years later, identical twins sons were born on July 4 and they moved to McAllen, Tx where Dr. Jorgensen became a professor at the university and Karen hosted her own TV show on KGBT-TV. Soon, a third son was born! She also earned a Master's Degree in English. Eleven years later, divorce struck and Karen took her three sons and moved back to Roanoke, Virginia. She worked at an advertising agency and was the 11pm weather girl for WSLS-TV ( NBC) in Roanoke. Later, she became the marketing director for Tanglewood Mall in Roanoke while still keeping her TV job and teaching English at the local community college.
