CHAPTER 11 Organizing Your Move
Moving to a new home can feel like running a marathon—it’s exciting, exhausting, and sometimes overwhelming. Yet, with careful planning and the right mindset, it can also be an uplifting experience, symbolizing new beginnings. As Judith Minty wisely said, “Nothing remains as it was. If you know this, you can begin again, with pure joy in the uprooting.” Whether your move is across town or across the country, the key to a smooth transition lies in organization and preparation. This chapter will guide you through the process, from packing to settling in, with practical advice to keep things manageable and stress-free.
Create a Master Checklist
A good checklist is your best ally during a move. In fact, you’ll need two: 1. Inventory Checklist List all the items you’re moving, grouped by the room they belong to. Number your boxes and indicate where each item is packed. This system makes unpacking much easier. 2. Task Checklist This should include everything from scheduling utilities to arranging moving help. No task is too small to include—having a detailed list ensures nothing is overlooked.
