Loni Lueke REALTOR® - The Do's and Don'ts in your Homebuying Process

The commission itself is up for negotiation between the seller and the agent. Typically, an agent will receive a commission of 6% from the sale price, which they will then have to share with the buyer’s agent. However, brokerages allow their agents the flexibility to offer better rates for their sellers under certain circumstances, such as when the listing agent also brings a buyer.

PAYING THE COMMISSION

The overall commission is paid at the settlement period by the seller. The fee is taken from the proceeds of the sale of the home or the property. From there, the commission is then divided during the settlement process between the buyer's agent brokerage and the listing agent's brokerage.
