of helping dad build it. He always invited me to help even though it took more time with me than it would take without my help. I remember laying down shingles and pounding them in with a hammer, as well as helping him lay the hardwood floors. The lessons learned from watching my dad in my formative years impact me to this day. Like Dad, I know the vast importance of owning a home and the root system of stability it provides to a family. I know what hard work looks like, and what it takes to offer the kind of service I can be proud of. Like my dad, I love the smell of new construction and watching a home being assembled piece by piece. The knowledge acquired through my dad lives on after he has passed. I am also keenly aware of the overarching importance of family. It was the first institution created when the world was put together. And through the years, I’ve come face to face with the pain of those who do not have a strong family. More specifically, I’ve fought in the trenches of fatherlessness and its warping power to create dysfunctional lives. Just like my dad, the most important things in my life are homes and families.
