CHAPTER 1 How Real Estate Agents Help Home Buyers An agent will help the home buyer understand the type of home they can afford in the current market, find listed homes that match their needs and price range, as well as explaining the ins and outs of various properties and neighborhoods, to help buyers narrow the properties worth considering. Real estate agents are legally obligated to protect the best interests of their client, so they should exhaust every effort to find homes for their clients to view, advise their clients on an appropriate price to offer then submit the offer to listing agents and negotiate the most favorable purchase contracts. An agent should also be able to refer you to reliable mortgage brokers, real estate attorneys, home inspectors, movers, contractors and other real estate professionals. This can also help expedite each step of the process and move you to a successful closing. A real estate agent can represent more than one client at the same time. Thus your agent may also be representing a seller as their listing agent during the same period they’re working with you. This is referred to as a dual agent.
