Pick a handful of companies and call to ask about their services, procedures, policies, and fees. Get at least three estimates from different companies so that you can compare their services and prices, and then choose the one that best suits both your needs and your budget. Now is the time to go through all the stuff in your home and determine what you will keep and what you’ll discard. Your “discard” piles can be further divided into “sell,” “give away,” and “throw away” (or recycle, depending). Remember, less is more. If you no longer need it or use it, give it away, sell it, or toss it. This will make packing easier and quicker for you. • Protect your paperwork. Keep a file of all your moving documents, such as contracts, invoices, bills, etc., close at hand. This file should be readily available whenever you need them. • Remember your utilities. During the process of moving, some people forget about their utilities. Inform your utility company(ies) of your moving date so they can disconnect services (i.e., water, electricity, cable, Internet) on the date after your move. And then make sure you’ll have those same utilities up and running on your move-in day at your new address. Schedule an activation or transfer of these services in advance so you don’t have to worry about them later
