LET THERE BE LIGHT Whether natural or art ifi cial, bringing in light is one of the most e ff ective ways to show o ff y our home. Harsh light is un fl attering to furnishings and features. Dim lighting gives everything in the house a dingy feel. Make sure the light over the sink area is s uffi cient and working properly. Avoid harsh lighting in the bedroom; strategically placed lamps give bedrooms a peaceful, restful feel . Th e closet light should be bright, though. UPDATING HARDWARE Carefully inspect your bathroom and kitchen hardware. If it’s unsightly or worn, replace it. Put yourself in a buyer’s shoes; your old home will potentially be their new home, a ft er all. Old, worn- ou t fixt ures aren’t going to speak to them the way nice, shiny new hardware will. Unless your knobs, pulls, handles, or hinges are broken, or mismatched, there’s no real reason to replace them. You can get that new look by thoroughly washing, sanding, and painting them with spray paint made spe cifi cally for kitchen and bath hardware, which is generally more cost-e ff ective. Th e goal is to touch up your home and give it a new, clean look without breaking the ban k. Th e Internet has a wealth of do-it- yourself (DIY) videos that can help you update your bath and kitchen if your budget is limited, or if you simply have both the time and interest in these DIY projects. If the hardware is broken, mismatched or completely worn out, it’s best to replace the whole set. If it’s just broken in a few places and you ca n fin d matching pieces, you can paint the old and new
