guidelines provided in Chapter 9. • Do keep all records relating to insurance, your car(s), medical issues, and expenses stemming from accidents. This includes letters, emails, voicemails, texts, bills, receipts, and more. (By “all records,” I literally mean all records). • Do take notes when talking to insurance agents, claims adjusters, other drivers, and other relevant professionals either while you’re talking or immediately after conversations. Write down every detail you can, even if it doesn’t seem relevant at the time.
DON’T…
• Don’t only think about your monthly premium when comparing insurance plans — coverage types and amounts must be seriously considered, as well. • Don’t lie to your insurance company or “forget” to tell them important things, like if you move, start earning money by driving, or your teen gets his or her license. • Don’t say you’re sorry or discuss any injuries (or say you’re unharmed) at the site of the accident or to the other driver or their insurance after the fact. • Don’t accept a settlement if it seems too small. • Don’t forget to look into new insurance every year — you could miss out on savings!
CONSIDER…
• Think about what you post on social media or blogs — insurance companies read all that and it can affect your settlements.
