broken or completely worn out, it needs to be replaced. But if it’s just looking a little well-used, there are things you can do to make them look new again. A solid cleaning is, of course, the first step. If necessary, you can paint them, too, using the spray paint I mentioned above. Paint is definitely a cheap and easy way to bring new life to your home! If you do end up replacing your hardware, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. One is that, unless you can find the exact matching hardware, you need to replace the whole set. “Close enough” is not good enough. Secondly, you’ll need to match your exposed hinges and knobs for the sake of consistency. And don’t forget those light switches and outlets, which can be easily and inexpensively updated, too. If yours are discolored, scratched, or broken, this is an important detail to attend to.
APPLIANCES
Many people wonder about upgrading their appliances before putting their homes on the market. This information from the National Association of Realtors® should help: • appliances should definitely be present at showing • most buyers are concerned or very concerned that the home has new appliances • 17% of buyers want stainless steel appliances • the majority of buyers are willing to pay more for the appliances on their wish list—about $2,000 more Of course, you might not be able to buy new appliances, and that’s understandable. Again, that specialized spray paint can come in handy here! And if you’re not up for that, just be sure the appliances are at least in working order and as clean as you can possibly make them before every showing!
