CHAPTER 15 Words Matter
While pictures are extremely important, having the right words accompanying them can increase interest even more. If you’ve got a home on the ocean, a picture combined with the description “beautiful 3-bedroom home with breathtaking view of ocean” will double-up on this key (and possibly offer-sealing) feature. Keep in mind that your home doesn’t need a dramatic view to get interest. Even something as simple as windows can count. Doesn’t “large windows that let in lots of natural light” sound like exactly what buyers are looking for? Just like pictures, first impressions matter, so you want to highlight your home’s best feature or two right at the beginning. You could even go a step further and make them part of the headline. The right words attract the right people. By doing some smart wordsmithing, you’ll see the quality of your leads get better, which means the people who come see your home will be more interested and more ready to buy. And when they do make an offer, they’ll be closer to (if not at) your asking price. There’s a great example from Hollywood that shows just how powerful the right words can be: back in 2014, Tom Cruise starred in Edge of Tomorrow. The movie had a disappointing showing at the box office, so the studio started looking for a way to bring in more money through the DVD release. Ultimately, they decided to add “LIVE DIE REPEAT” in big, bold letters to the cover design. Meanwhile, the movie’s title stretched across the bottom in a smaller font. The repackaging worked! It was the same movie, but thanks to those three magic words, people now understood
