Rebecca Southard - HOME BUYING FOR VETERANS

• Start a file of all your moving documents, such as contracts, invoices, bills, etc. This file should be readily available when you need them, so make sure it doesn't get packed. • Open a PO Box in the city you are moving to if you don't have a permanent address yet. • Unless you're PCSing, start collecting boxes & packing materials so you can start packing. Look on garage sale & PCS social media sites. Consider making an ISO post, people are always looking to get rid of extra boxes. • Arrange for daycare for your two/four-legged kids for moving day.... trust me on this one. TWO-THREE WEEKS BEFORE THE B RE THE BIG MOVE • Inform your utility company of your moving date so they can disconnect services (i.e., water, electricity, cable, Internet) on the date after your move. • Schedule an activation or transfer of these same services to your new address, so that you already have them in place once you move in. • Bring out the boxes and start packing the items you won’t be using in the coming weeks. Label the boxes with the room the items belong to. This will make unpacking systematic. If you are PCSing the movers will bring all the necessary supplies. • Make a list of the items that go in each box. You could also take pictures so you’ll know where to find each item. • Finalize the details of your big move with the moving company or friends/family. If PCSing, the movers should

contact you to ensure the details are correct. • Confirm daycare for two/four-legged kids.
