Rebecca Southard - HOME BUYING FOR VETERANS

• Update all personal documents that include your address. Notify your employer, banks, and insurance companies of your change in address. • File a change of address with the post office. • File your leave from work for the days that you’ll be concentrating on the move. • Hold your garage sale and/or donate unwanted items. • Disassemble furniture you won't need. Make sure to store the hardware in a plastic bag & tape it to the item so it doesn't get lost. ONE WEEK BEFORE THE B RE THE BIG MOVE • Prepare a suitcase of things that you’ll need on the day of your big move, like towels, toiletries, and clean clothes, etc. Make sure to store it away from the home so it doesn't get packed. • Check the condition of your new place and make sure everything is ready for moving day. Clean up all the clutter, and check if the switches are working and whether electricity is already available. • Call to confirm details of the move with movers or friends/family, such as time of arrival and pickup. • If you are PCSing, the movers will pack and disassemble everything. If you do it and ahead of time and it gets damaged they may not replace it. So it's best to let them handle it. • Draw up a timetable for moving day, including items like time to start loading boxes, where/when to stop for lunch, estimated time of arrival at the new place, etc. This will give you a sense of what to expect and prepare for on the day itself.
