Paul Cooke - SELLING AN INHERITED HOUSE

that your curb appeal is amped up. For example, if your house is white or gray and has black shutters, a red-painted front door can create a somewhat mysterious feel and bring more beauty to your home. Do not overlook the rear of the home. Your back door also needs attention. For example, ensure sliding screen doors have perfect screens and function smoothly. A door that sticks or slides out during a showing is a definite faux pas.

A WELL-MANI -MANICURED LAWN

If your lawn is withering, has brownish dead areas, or is overgrown and spotted with weeds, buyers will be less attracted to your home. That can be the case for inherited properties. It is important to have a lawn that is well manicured and shows off just as much as the rest of your home. So, it might be worth having a lawncare company come over and give a quote to manicure the lawn, trim hedges, raise the canopy of the trees and clean up limbs and leaves around the yard. Maybe even have them throw down some mulch in the beds. On a more regular basis, until the home is sold, have the grass regularly mowed and nicely edged. This might be done by a teen in the neighborhood or professional lawn care service (which doesn't have to be expensive) a couple times a month. You also may consider having a few blooming plants either placed in pots or planted in some strategic places. It brings a cheer and brightness to the home and makes it more inviting. If you have garden gnomes, don't. I don't have anything against them personally, but some of them can freak people out and can give a cluttered feel. It's better to remove them, if you want them pack them up, or give them away.
