restaurant where I would work until almost midnight.

That was a great job with lots of customers to keep us busy. Also had free beer and lots of good food to eat. The drinking age in 1972 was 18 because of the Viet Nam War. They decided it was unfair to draft us and send us off to Nam with our rifle but not allow us to have a cold beer. I worked my way up to head chef in just a couple of months and eventually worked as a bar tender, assistant manager and then the restaurant manager. Made good money, $600 per week. $600 in 1971 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $4,396.99 t $4,396.99today, an increase of $3,796.99 over 52 years. The dollar had an average inflation rate of 3.90% per year between 1971 and today, producing a cumulative price increase of 632.83%. That is insane, inflation is a real bad thing!

While still working at the restaurant my best friend, Mark Butcher, suggested that we should get our Real Estate Licenses. We took the classes and took the state licensing exam, passed it and went to work selling real estate for Robert L. Gruen, the president of the Board of Realtors.
