various products. I brokered stocks, bonds, mutual funds, money market funds, oil wells, diamonds, gold, silver & mortgages. My favorite investment was real estate. Local, multifamily real estate from Ocean City to Hagerstown, MD. After the birth of our two daughters Cathy and I decided to buy a single-family house. We found a great home on one acre up in Mount Airy, MD. Mount Airy was a small town that had only one traffic light. Great little town to raise our children. I met and became friends with Bob Grimes, he owned and had just sold the largest real estate brokerage office in town and he invited me to join him in opening Investment Realty, Inc. Bob was one foot taller than me, that's not that hard to do actually. We set up our office at 301 W. Patrick St in the Historic District of Frederick, MD. Bob and I bought, sold, brokered and built homes, multifamily apartment buildings and office buildings. Our first joint purchase was a 5 story, 18 unit building with an elevator in Hagerstown. From there we purchased many other multifamily buildings. I eventually owned 130 rental units. I was able to design and build custom single family homes in Frederick, Carroll and Washington Counties. We also built commercial office buildings. I even got to use real dynamite to help me build several public roads with full underground utility infrastructure. I loved when we blasted, BOOM! I teamed up with John Keating, CFP and his investment attorney to do limited partnerships. We bought and managed hundreds of apartments. We sold the buildings (like the 50 unit building below) to Merrill Lynch who used them in their commercial syndication programs.
