When you contact them, you can simply start by mentioning that you’re looking to retain the services of a real estate agent who can help you with the process of downsizing. Most will respond positively: “You called the right number! I’m just the right person who can help you with all your needs!” This is the time to mention that you’re happy to interview them, as you are considering various options. The interview process is key; its purpose is to check the qualities of the agent to see if he or she is the right fit (for you and your needs). This includes personality, behavior, work ethic, professional credentials, experience, housing market knowledge, and positive feedback from clients. And before you hire an agent, make sure you check previous deals (their portfolio), working hours, capabilities, skills, motivation, ideas, and loyalty, as well as ethical exam certifications. Don’t rush through the interview process. You need to find the agent that’s right for you! When you interview them, keep in mind that an agent should be: Honest: Does the agent have a good, honest reputation built on high business practice standards?
