In addition to broadcasting, antennas are also used in radar, radio astronomy and electronic warfare. The towers rose up 10 stories into the sky but the coolest part was that they were nuclear bomb proof and went down 10 stories into the ground. They were pretty cool to say the least. Even with all of his credentials and responsibility he was barely paid enough to make a good living. Mom and dad had to pinch pennies their entire life. In addition to AT&T dad had a small apartment building and he had a floor wash and wax business. I remember when I was about 10 years old, I needed surgery to repair damage to my upper lip that I had busted up in a car/ bicycle accident. It left me with a nasty upper lip scar. To pay the plastic surgeon they had to sell their second car, ouch! My favorite job ever was working for Baskin Robbins Ice Cream. My saying was “one for you and one for me.” As a young man I cut grass, delivered newspapers, washed cars in people's driveways, shoveled snow, caddied at Manor Country Club. All fun and quite profitable for a kid. In December of my senior year of high school I had finished the football season and decided to get a part time job. I walked into a restaurant called Sir Raymond’s Steak House. The manager asked me if I knew how to cook. Well just that very morning I had made myself some scrambled eggs so of course my answer was “yes, I can cook”.
I would get out of Peary High at 2:00pm and go straight to the
